Remember when you were a little boy or girl  and your mom use to tell you that you were such a special person and that there was nobody else in the world just like you? Well it’s true. And it’s what will separate you from the pack in network marketing.

I don’t know why it is that so many people in MLM or network marketing want to be like everyone else but it just seems like some companies are full of clones. It’s like they think that if they copy the way a successful person talks, walks and dresses that they will somehow become successful too.

While I will admit that it’s a great idea to look at the people who are making the most money in your business and find out what you can learn from them. I want to stress the importance of just being yourself.

People for some reason love to do business with people who remind them of themselves. Stay at home moms love to work with other stay at home moms. 45 year old business professionals love to talk to people who are like them and young 20 somethings love to do business with other 20 somethings.

So when you are uniquely you, you will be attracting people just like you who want to work from home. I believe that too often people try to recruit anyone and everyone. However, the truth is that if you just focus on the people who are like you you will have your own little niche and you’ll be more successful than the people who are making blogs and videos and articles for anyone and everyone. Target the people who are most like you and you’ll have the most success!

If you’re a little shy that’s ok. Not everyone in MLM has to be crazy outgoing and a type A personality. Just be yourself. Talk like you normally talk, dress how you normally dress and market in a way that feels right for you.

Believe me when you stop trying to be everyone else and you start just being yourself you will have more success than any MLM clone out there could ever possibly have.

How To Overcome Nerves When Talking To A Home Business Prospect

If you’re new to network marketing (or even if you’re not) it is pretty common to get nervous when talking to a prospect. Whether you are talking to them in person or over the phone it can be hard sometimes to overcome your nervousness. When I first started out calling prospects on the phone I would get so scared that it would be hard for me to even dial the number. Then once I started talking I would talk really, really quickly or at times not know what to say if that asked me a question.

Almost every marketer that I’ve ever known has gotten nervous from time to time when speaking to someone about their business. So how do you overcome the jitters and learn how to sound confident and controlled on the phone? The first thing to know is that it is not going to come without a major amount of practice. So if you’re nervous on the phone you’re just going to have to jump on the line anyway. This is the fastest way to get over your fear, it’s not easy but it works.

Just get on the phone and start dialing. The more people you talk to the less nervous you will be. After a little bit of doing this I promise you that you’ll feel much more confident on the phone. You will start to realize that some people are going to be incredibly nice, some people are going to be rotten and there really isn’t anything that you can do about it.

However,  if you still can’t get over your jitters try these tips.

1. Practice on a friend or family member
2. Practice in the mirror
3. Remember to speak slowly (even if you’re shaking in your boots speaking slowly will make you sound more confident.)
4. Remember to smile (you might think it doesn’t matter over the phone but it really does help)
5. Keep notes in front of you so that if they ask a question they won’t trip you up

Those are the best tips I have for getting over the nervousness of talking to a prospect. Now get out there and talk to as many people as you can and remember that practice makes perfect!

Why More People Aren’t Showing Up To Your Network Marketing Meetings

A super duper frustrating thing that happens to all network marketers is when you have several people who are suppose to show up to your local MLM meeting and none of them come! I remember getting incredibly frustrated at times because I would talk to these people on the phone and give them directions and make sure they knew when the meeting started and then they just wouldn’t show up!

I couldn’t believe how excited they would sound on the phone and then they wouldn’t show up and I would just be so baffled!

One thing I learned through all my frustration however is that it happens to pretty much everyone in MLM. I would see people who were much better marketers than me get stood up for meetings just as often as I would so I knew that it wasn’t about me personally. Still it can be frustrating and I wanted to cut back on the no shows as much as possible. So here are a couple tips that you can use to make sure more of your prospects show up for your local meetings.

Meet them beforehand

Instead of giving them the address and time of the meeting try meeting them a half hour before at a coffee shop or some place else. Give yourself a chance to meet them and let them meet you in a more relaxed environment. Coming into a meeting can be a little weird for some people. Having them meet you beforehand is more casual and they are more likely to come if they know it’s just going to be you. Then you can walk into the meeting together.

Call to confirm

If you set up an appointment earlier in the week make sure you call them the night before or even the afternoon of the meeting to make sure they’re still coming. That way you can know ahead of time if someone is planning on blowing you off. Also, your call will let them know that you care about them coming and it will make them feel important.

Give them a reason to come

Tell your prospect over the phone that you have someone who has a lot of experience in the business who you would love for them to meet if they come to the meeting. Introduce them to your upline or someone who has had a lot of success and can answer their questions really effectively. Sometimes letting them know that there is someone more knowledgeable than you at the meetings will encourage them to come because otherwise they might just want to play 20 questions with you on the phone.

The promise of someone else will peak their interest and they’re much more likely to show up.

Right now it is a popular trend in MLM to do everything online and do nothing in person for your business. And while I am a huge fan of the internet and I believe it is an amazing tool for your business I still believe in the power of going to your local meetings and mingling with the people who are a part of your business locally. More and more people I find are reluctant to go to a meeting but here are 4 reasons why I think you should even if you don’t really want to. I hope that they will give you a reason to think twice about going to your local meetings.

1. Get Encouragement

A home based business is a great way to make money but lets be honest, sometimes it can be really frustrating! There is a lot of rejection and a lot of negativity if you let it get in your head. This is one of the reasons people end up quitting. Because they can not deal with the rejection. Sometimes you can feel very alone and that’s why you need to get out there to your local meetings and talk to people who have been through the same thing. Once you see that it’s not just you or that you’re not doing anything wrong you will probably feel encouraged and more prepared to face the upcoming week.

2. Get Knowledge

There are people at the meetings that can teach you a lot. At most local MLM meetings there are people of all levels of the business. From people who are just starting out to people who have been very successful. It’s always good no matter what you’re doing that you’re able to hang out with the people who have had success. Learn from them and pick their brains as much as you can. It will only help you!

3. Get Inspired

Sometimes you just need to see that success is possible.  That’s what makes local meetings so great. Hearing income testimonials or stories of overcoming obstacles will inspire you and make you want to go out there and achieve more in the upcoming week. Sometimes we all need a little inspiration.

4. Inspire others

Sometimes you need the meeting and sometimes the meeting needs you! Just because you haven’t reached your goal yet doesn’t mean that you can’t be an inspiration to others, you never know who is watching you and getting inspired by your story. So even if you don’t want to go for yourself go for the person who is going to look at you and get inspiration.

Are You Embarrassed About Working From Home?

Are you embarrassed for people to know that you work from home? Do you tell your friends and family about what you do for a living (or what you do part time)? When someone asks you what you do do you avoid telling them the truth? If so you might be hurting yourself and your paycheck in your home based business.

If you’re embarrassed about working from home there is really no reason to be. Network marketing is a totally legal, ethical and legitimate way to make money. It’s a real business and it’s nothing to be ashamed of. I have come across a lot of different types of people through the years and I have found that the people who are embarrassed or ashamed of their home based business goals are the ones who don’t tend to make very much money or the ones who drop out and quit before ever truly realizing your success.

I guess it could be considered normal for someone to be a little ashamed of working from home. After all the public opinion of network marketing isn’t exactly great. A lot of people still wrongfully view home based businesses as scams or schemes instead of what they actually all, legitimate businesses.

However, if you are going to be a part of a home based business you need to get over that and fast! Otherwise you might not ever have the kind of success that you want to have.

A prospect can pick up on someone who isn’t confident in what they’re talking about and nobody wants to be in business with someone who isn’t sure of themselves.

Many people feel like they want to hide their business from their friends and family until they start making a lot of money and then they’ll shout it from the rooftops but that’s not a good thing to do either. Your friends and family will probably just want to support you and who knows perhaps some of them will even go into business WITH you! So keeping it a secret isn’t a good idea.

Don’t be ashamed or embarrassed by working from home. It’s a smart and savvy thing to do in these economic times and it’s defiantly nothing to be embarrassed about!
